EDUCATION: Toi Whakaari NZ Drama School: Bachelor in Performing Arts


KNOWN FOR: Director, Actor and Acting Tutor at the Pacific Institute of Performing Arts (PIPA). She is a founding member of pacific theatre company, Kila Kokonut Krew. Anapela is also part of the comedy-duo act ‘Pani & Pani’ on Pacific television show, FreshTV, with Goretti Chadwick.




  • Anapela is no stranger to the stage. She has been performing in theatre since the 1990s with her involvement in community stage shows. She did a feature film ‘Brown Sugar in 1996, and continued with her theatre performances in 2000 with ‘Into the Woods and 2001 with ‘Duffy Show
  • 2002 – Co-founded theatre company, Kila Kokonut Krew, with husband Vela Manusaute. The company debuted their first theatrical production, ‘Taro King‘, that same year
  • 2002 – Cast as the mother Sina in Oscar Kightley’s, ‘Island Girls. She continued her role as Sina, in another performance of Island Girls in 2003
  • 2003 – Cast and performed in two other theatre productions: ‘Songmaker’s Chair and ‘Island Divas
  • 2004 to 2005 – Performed inLove Handles and ‘Playez Night‘. Both theatre pieces were from her company, Kila Kokonut Krew. The company delivered a comedy show performance titled, Once Were Samoans, at the Comedy Festival in 2006
  • 2007 to 2008 – Performed in several more works that include ‘Frangipani Perfume, ‘My Name Is Gary Cooper’, ‘Super Fresh’, ‘Where We Once Belonged’, and ‘Once Were Samoans
  • Television credits include her time directing KTV on Triangle TV, played the role of Ina Lima in ‘The Market’, and played role of Ana in ‘Eruption’
  • 2011 – Debuted ‘Pani’ role in the comedy-duo act on NZ Pacific television show, ‘Pani & Pani, on FreshTV with Goretti Chadwick
  • 2012 – Cast in the New Zealand short film, ‘Nightshift’, as Salote, an airport cleaner starts another long night shift. The short film is written and directed by Zia Mandviwalla, and produced by Chelsea Winstanley and Matt Noonan.
  • Anapela with husband Vela, have joined up with three other directors since the theatre company first began. In 2012, they marked the theatre companys 10th anniversary with performances of the Taro King, their first theatrical piece that started it all in 2002. Though the company is known for its theatre work, it has also branched out into the music industry, producing over twelve albums; supporting both popular and emerging Pacific Island artists in the Kila Kokonut Krew’s independent studio
  • 2013 – Kila Kokonut Krew performed New Zealand’s first Pacific musical,The Factory, at the 2013 Auckland Arts Festival
